Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964 is a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president as well as the highest ranking female official in the United States. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for health care, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
